About Roberts IT Services

Chris Roberts, our owner / director has a PhD in Chemistry following his first class honours degree, both from the University of Birmingham. His IT career began during his final year project for his first degree when he worked on Genetic Algorithms for Cluster Optimization (computer modelling of small chemical entities). He continued with detailed research into this for his PhD.

Subsequently he's spent over 10 years working in scientific software development, much of which has been for the research and development area of a major pharmaceuticals company.

Chris is a Member of the British Computer Society.

Chris formed Roberts IT Services in May of 2012 when he began the next stage of his career as an IT consultant.

Chris has a wide range of excellent development skills in Java (Swing, JDBC, JPA, Servlets, Web Services, Struts, Tapestry, Ant, Maven), Oracle (SQL and PL/SQL) and Web technologies (HTML, XML, CSS, Adobe Flex). He is an experienced user of market leading scientific and analysis packages including R, TIBCO Spotfire, Origin and Pipeline Pilot.

Thanks to his academic background, Chris communicates well with scientists and understand their scientific problems and requirements. He has an excellent track record of working with complex scientific challenges and is
used to working very closely with teams of scientists involved in the early stages of drug discovery to provide them with solutions to improve the quality and speed of their experimental data analysis.

Chris has assistance from another retired IT manager with over 40 years experience, a mathematics graduate and also a member of the British Computer Society, now conducting small amounts of website development and support.
